Steve got off the phone with Duke in Honolulu for a quick check on Junior in his first week at the Academy (so far, Junior was a try-hard who was outstripping everyone in his class and annoying all the slackers. Steve smirked to himself. Good job, Junior), then opened a link that one of Danny's sisters had sent him about all the groundhog days around the world.

(Hawaii didn't do it because it didn't have winter.)

"Snack Town Steve, you're a disgrace to all Steves," Steve told his computer. "We don't need six more weeks of this."

Class had been handwavily asked to meet at Portalocity today, and Hannibal smiled at the students when they arrived. "Good morning. There are several field trips we may take this semester, to experience first-hand some things that might benefit from it."

He paused. "If any of you have difficulties with green light, I suggest you don sunglasses before we embark." He wasn't particularly fond of this world's sun, but the people at the store were very friendly and helpful.

Once anybody who wanted to had put on their glasses, Hannibal waved them through the portal )

Okay, yeah, we're not doing that. We've got some dandelion greens, maybe I can do something with that...hey, why do we have so much Gorgonzola?"

Today, class would find a paper taped to the classroom door like it was the 20th century: Squirrel class: Meet in the library. - Jonathan Sims

When they got there, they would find Jon looking slightly disheveled and very sheepish.

"So I...um. Well, I got distracted last night and forgot where I put the notes for class, and I couldn't find them this morning, either." You would think an entity of knowledge would be helpful here, but the Eye just seemed to be enjoying Jon's mortification.

"Fortunately, that is more or less on-brand for this class, so we'll call it a learning experience - it's best to keep things in specific places rather than putting them down...somewhere. And today will be a study period. We've got books, computers, CDs, and videos here. Learn something new and come back and tell us at the end of class. Even if all you learn is how they organize the library."

Most of the dogs decided they were done with their morning constitutionals pretty quickly. But then there was the husky, a breed Caleb had not seen in real life before working here.

"Oh you're one of those." Caleb said bemusedly, watching the fluffy winter lover frolic as best it could between wiping out on the frozen tundra that was the play yard.

Harley's visit last weekend had driven it home that Pam should be back to Fandom at least for a while this week. To check on the stock, to do some of the quieter planning work for the swamp upstairs, to just... be in this little place for a little while.

So she showed up to the store in the morning. Opened up the doors, made sure all the plants were watered and, if necessary, given some fertilizer.

She checked the stocks, the little garden outside, the state of the back room.

And then, eventually, settled on the sofa with a hot cup of tea and a book.

Today in the Danger Shop, the students would arrive to their little individual house simulations. Once they stepped outside, they would find a basketball, a basketball hoop, and a task.

Get the basketball through the hoop. You may not touch the basketball with your hands, you may not wear gloves or anything that could be reasonably construed to be gloves. Powers are not allowed. Best time wins. Your time starts now.

Good morning, this is Kitty Pryde-Barton coming to from cold hell. I'm over it. We're all over it.

So was Gregorith, who was put into a cranky mood thanks to the weather, and Rey was just really rushed yesterday but I'm going to go ahead and blame winter on her behalf.

That's all the notes. That groundhog better get it right today, I swear.

Vi tended not to spend a heap of time on her phone, especially not at work, but she did have a few alerts set up on it, mostly in case there was something she could surprise Steph with. One of which had been going off repeatedly since last night.

Which went a long way to explain why Vi was frowning at her phone in intense concentration as she tilted it (and her head) this way and that.

Rey sort of had a schedule to her day, and today it was impossible to actually keep to it. She woke up on time, somehow took so long to get ready doing the same things she did every day that she got out the door to training later than intended. She'd set an alarm to leave the warehouse with plenty of time to get to work, and yet still ended up being late.

So she was a little frazzled today, and checking the time too much because she didn't understand what it seemed to be doing today.

*chittering*

No, I don't think any of you are groundhogs, it's just a normal question. Look, let's just get this going, hmm? Sairis had a morning of cartoons and cereal like any proper college student should, honestly. And tea, it seems. Which is what lured Henry in to try before they engaged in a religious debate. Caleb stopped in for the cartoons as well.

And that's all we have. Go enjoy the last of the weekend, folks.

Gregorith had vacationed in Asgard, had even spent some time in what he thought were the colder areas. But he'd not spent a lot of time in those areas and they never got this cold.

On his way in to work he remembered something from a funny video he'd seen where a woman started out singing a Christmas song and then cut off dramatically when she opened the door to see a wet snowy landscape.

"Well the weather outside is- nope!"

He'd layered up so he wasn't even that uncomfortable on the short walk but the cold made him somewhat paranoid about exposing any part of him to the air. And when he got inside he felt suddenly sleepy and he wondered if it was his eyes thawing out.

In any case he was here, and he was working on de-grouching himself.

When Sairis arrived in the common room, the television was on. There were pictures on it that seemed drawn rather than live people, and they were...definitely odd. Somehow captivating, though.

He made tea absent-mindedly and opted for some of the "cereal" (which still didn't look like it was made from any grain he knew). There was a picture on the box of milk being poured over it, so he tried that. It was sweet, but like the television, oddly good.

So he'd just be eating sugary cereal and watching Saturday morning cartoons I don't care if they're not a thing anymore.

Good morning, everyone, and I do hope you are all tucked up somewhere warm, unlike myself as I am cruelly beset by rodents determined to drag me from my warm bed to read their gossipy little scribblings.

*chittering*

Yes, I do love gossip, but that's not the point. The point is that I was warm and now I am not. Let's get on with this so that I may aspire to be warm again, shall we?

At the school, Overcoming Obstacles played in the snow, then Combat 101 learned how to properly throw a punch, followed by Cupcakes of the World(s) learning of the cupcakes of Indonesia.

I've nothing from the dormitory, and cannot tell if the porg is sad or merely cold. However, in the town, Detective Watts at the Trooper Station received a delivery of flowers courtesy of Mr. Grant. At Needful Things, Dr. Quinn--ooooh! Dr. Quinn came across a possible spell book! I shall have to stop by and see about that. At Stark Tower, Mr. Anthony Stark was hard at work in his laboratory until Mr. Rogers interrupted to remind him of dinner...and that is the last of the notes. Everyone else must have been too cold to do anything.

Now, I am off for a cup of tea and a bit of a huddle under a blanket. Farewell, dear listeners!

Combat 101, Friday Second Period

Today the Danger Shop had been set up with punching bags, and Thor explained to his students, "Today you will learn how to throw a punch, or review the skill, if you have already been taught. First, and most critically, learn how to make a fist: your thumb goes on the outside of your fingers, not the inside. Tucked inside, you risk breaking it. Do not do this. Second, learn where to punch. The face is an obvious target, but it is full of bones close to the surface, and punching hard surfaces risks damage to your hand. This does not necessarily mean you should not hit someone in the face--a swollen eye or a broken nose can debilitate your opponent enough to assure your victory or escape--but that you should be prepared for the consequences." Thor pulled up an anatomical diagram made of hard light and pointed out other good targets, such as the solar plexus, the kidneys, and the groin.

"Now, how does one throw a punch? There are six basic forms of punch: the jab, the cross, the lead and rear hook, and the lead and rear uppercut. You may have heard of the 'haymaker,' which is similar to a hook but unbalanced and leaves one open to counterattack. You will learn better form here."

Thor handwavily guided his students through each form of punch, then sent them to the bags to practice for the rest of class. "You may focus on one punch or rotate through all of them. The choice is yours, but I would recommend the latter approach. No one tool will serve in all circumstances."

One of the joys of running a place that specialized in various old crap - especially when you as the proprietor had a brain that craved constant new input - was the mystery boxes of new old junk coming in! Sure, more often than not half the things in them was straight up trash coming from the house of someone's late grandma, but that didn't stop the joy of discovery!

"Okay, trash trash trash, candle stick, weird... letter opener thingamabob," she was babbling to herself, unboxing the latest arrival all over the counter, "dinky costume jewelry -- oh, what, is this a spell book?!"

Likely not.

Regardless, this would keep her occupied for a while.

The teachers were in the Danger Shop today, bundled up. They'd wanted to play in the snow with the dogs, but Fee and Libby got distracted and they decided that the walls were necessary so the entire class period wasn't spent chasing the dogs all over the island.

"Hi," Steve said, grinning. "Turns out that the dogs love snow."

"Good for them, less great for us," Tony said with a sigh as the dogs were attempting to barrel around through the programmed snow.

"We've put up some of their obstacle course gear," Steve said, gesturing at the tunnel and then the little weave poles, "but they aren't really interested."

"But we thought fetch might work," Tony added. At the word 'fetch' three pairs of ears perked up from in the snow.

"It will definitely work better than trying to run the course," Steve said.

“Something different today,” Stark said. “Although that’s the idea, isn’t it? New things each week. We went, some of us, to Indonesia a few years ago. Stayed on a lovely warm island…”

He sighed and looked outside. Was this winter colder? Maybe it was just him.

“With a beach and plenty of sunshine and no snow or cold at all. Now, I don’t know if any of you went there or not. If you did, I hope you remember it fondly. Today’s cupcakes are from Indonesia.” He lifted the cloche on the table in front of him to reveal today’s cupcakes.

“These are called Bolo Kukus.” Hopefully he’d gotten the pronunciation right. “They’re a type of steamed cupcake. Very different from what I usually make, or eat, or what you might find in the bakery here. Here things have frosting and I would usually say cupcakes need frosting but I’m trying to be a bit more open-minded about that sort of thing.”

“So! These are steamed rather than baked. Something new, as I said. So we’ll need tins to steam them in and a steamer.” He pointed to the relevant objects as he spoke.

“Don’t worry if things don’t work out the first time. We’ve time to try again and this is a new recipe for most of you if not all of you. There’s a copy of the recipe for all of you, and I’ve got different colors to use to dye the cake different colors. I wonder if edible glitter would work? We had glitter in drinks yesterday in Kitty’s class…”

“So! Let’s try to steam some cupcakes. You can try one of the ones I’ve already made first, if you like, or save it for later, or not eat one at all. And there’s no decorating needed today. Oh, maybe the glitter could go on at the end…or colored sugar?”
